Greetings!
Juneteenth. Pride Month. Father’s Day. Graduations. Summer begins…what a wonderful time in our state to celebrate!
One of the many exciting things that our Kentucky Chapter gets to do is connect and collaborate with agencies, associations, and community groups across Kentucky. We are honored to serve on the Kentucky Judicial Commission for Mental Health and proud of the work that brings professional partners and experts together from across the state to make great things happen for our vulnerable Kentuckians. Please join us for the Recovery-Oriented System of Care (ROSC) Summit series which will be a fantastic training that we are proud to sponsor the free ceu’s We hope you will be inspired to participate in some of the work groups critically important to the commission and we would welcome your social work talents.
We are hosting a call on Friday, June 28th at 12pm/EST to discuss topics around private practice and reimbursement. We have been having some interesting conversations with members and community partners from the onboarding of new CSW’s joining practices/signing non-competes/ethical issues to the cutbacks from Medicaid and clawbacks from private insurance companies. Please join us on this zoom link and we ask that you not share it on social media: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82751538580?pwd=bGZZcVRCV05YejQ5aXJhT1lOTUpzdz09
We will have a list of our summer-early fall regional meet and greet information and dates heading your way the last week in June. Stay cool, enjoy the late sunsets, and as always, we are here for you and so grateful to each of you for all you do for a better Kentucky.
Best,
Brenda Rosen, MSW, CSW
Executive Director

Connect to End COVID-19 complimentary national webinar and CEUs, COVID-19 ear 5: Are We Prepared for the Next Pandemic, is available for self-study. Featuring acclaimed epidemiologist Dr. Michael Osterholm, founding Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy, and advisor to the Biden Administration on COVID-19 response.
As we enter the fifth year of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed more than 1.1 million American lives to date (most of them unvaccinated), social workers are understandably eager to put this public health crisis in the rearview mirror. NASW-KY IS HONORED TO WORK WITH KASWE – KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORK EDUCATORS – AND WE ARE EXCITED TO SHARE THIS IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FROM DR. ERIN STEVENSON, KASWE PRESIDENT:
Dear KASWE Colleagues,
I want to personally invite you to submit an article for review in a Special Issue of Youth (ISSN 2673-995X), titled “Resilience, Strength, Empowerment and Thriving of LGTBQIA+ Youth”. The link for more information is here: https://www.mdpi.com/si/207984 You are welcome to forward to others who might be interested!
I am serving as a guest editor for this issue, so please feel free to reach out with questions about appropriateness of an article or topic. erin.stevenson@eku.edu
This issue will be focused on young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and/or other diverse and vibrant sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQIA+).
While many research and scholarly efforts focus on the wounds, trauma, and stress that LGBTQIA+ youth endure, we recognize a scarcity of work on the resilience, strength, empowerment, coping, and thriving of LGBTQIA+ youth. We are interested in promoting the visibility of a more balanced narrative that includes both the familiar themes of struggle and the growth that emerges as a result of and in spite of those challenges.
This Special Issue aims to expand our perspectives on how LGBTQIA+ young people are flourishing and how we can support their continued growth, positive social connectedness, and development into adulthood. We invite contributions across disciplines and diverse methodologies from researchers and practitioners around the globe.
Guest Editors: Dr. Erin Stevenson- Eastern Kentucky University, Dr. Gregory Sandman - Eastern Kentucky University, Dr. James McGinn - Eastern Kentucky University, Dr. Quentin Hunter – Eastern Michigan University, Dr. Nathaniel L. Smith – University of Houston

The 'Inside Out' movies give kids an 'emotional vocabulary.' Therapists love that
Kristi Zybulewski, a clinical social worker, says that most of the teenagers she works with have seen Inside Out, often on the recommendation of a therapist. She said she's grateful for the movie because it gives kids an "emotional vocabulary" so they can name their feelings and because it supports what she tells her students in therapy: "All emotions are welcome. ... They're all necessary. They're all meaningful. They're all rich." https://buff.ly/4c2Jzfa via @NPR #NASW
We hope you are following the National NASW and NASW-KY Facebook pages for critical news impacting all of us on a global level:
NASW urges Israel and Hamas to Reach Peace Agreement
#NASW urges Israel and Hamas to work with negotiators to reach a peace agreement. The association condemns the increased, related hate incidents against #socialworkers in the U.S. Social workers should work together to reach understanding and help heal divisions caused by this conflict. CERTIFICATE IN ADVANCED PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING
PROGRAM VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE DATES
Join us for a virtual Open House session on select Fridays, from noon to 1pm CT, to learn more about our renowned Certificate in Advanced Psychotherapy Training program, designed for licensed practitioners and clinical supervisors who are interested in expanding and updating clinical skills, enriching care provided to clients, and wanting to enhance their overall practice.
July 12 ∙ Aug. 16 ∙ Sept. 13
Hear directly from faculty, current students, and alumni as we discuss and answer questions about this unique one-year intensive program designed for licensed mental health professionals (psychologists, LCSWs, LPCCs, and more).
This integrative curriculum emphasizes practical application through skill-building techniques delivered through seminars and case consultations. Students learn about the most current theory, techniques and research in attachment, neurobiology, shame, and trauma--all while being able to maintain a full-time professional practice. And best of all, participants become a part of a lasting support network cultivated between students and faculty as a professional community is developed during peer-reinforced learning exchanges and personalized mentoring experiences.
RSVP through the link below for any of the Open House dates to reserve your spot. (A link to the Open House will be sent to you via email the week of the event.) Or, if you have questions regarding the program, contact Katelyn Tippett at 866.258.8222 or ktippett@luc-iap.com.
Register for an Open House date at www.luc.edu/ssw/iap-openhouse.

Welcome to our NEW NASW Kentucky Community for members only!
We are excited to offer our own Kentucky Chapter Community page and encourage you to actively engage, network and collaborate with social work peers across Kentucky. This is your opportunity to connect by posting questions, sharing resources and information, and simply enjoying the chance to make new friends or connect with former co-workers and cohorts from our student members through our retired social workers!
We do expect everyone to follow the Terms and Conditions after accessing this page. We also know as social workers the importance of guiding our discussions respectfully and in accordance with our NASW Code of Ethics. We will be monitoring our page regularly and will be adding conversation prompts and updates. This will be a wonderful way to share information that comes to us in an urgent manner so we hope you will visit the Kentucky Community page often. We will also continue to post daily on our very busy NASW Kentucky Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NASWKentucky/?fref=ts
We cannot accept job openings or marketing on this Community site, but we will allow those of you who may be seeking, or providing, LCSW Supervision to discuss this on our Community page. Please do not post your supervision fees and keep this information between you and those who may contact you. We also ask both LCSW and CSW’s to include your license renewal date as a way to make sure everyone is currently licensed.
